Hall of Fame Moments

Throughout our nation's history there has been many outstanding sporting moments that collectively contribute a significant thread to the Australian sporting tapestry.

The Sport Australia Hall of Fame recognises the importance of acknowledging and celebrating these sporting moments and in 2007 introduced the 'Great Sporting Moments'. In the inaugural year three such moments were 'enshrined' after the public voted through a national News Ltd poll.

This award is not intended to be given annually but to be granted. The Sport Australia Hall of Fame's Selection Committee have nominated outstanding moments to be ‘enshrined’ into The Hall of Fame ‘Spirit of Sport’ exhibit at the National Sports Museum.

When considering the stature of an athlete or for that matter any person, I set great store in certain qualities which I believe to be essential in addition to skill. They are that the person conducts his of her life with dignity, with integrity, courage, and perhaps most of all, with modesty. These virtues are totally compatible with pride, ambition, and competitiveness.
