Sally Pearson OAM - Athletics

Sally became the first Austraian to be named the "World Athlete of the Year" when the IAAF announced both herself and Usain Bolt (Jamaica) as the winners of the Female and Male Titles in Monaco in November 2011.

Since then Sally has remained unbeaten over the 100m hurdles and until weeks out from the London 2012 Olympic Games when she hit a hurdle in a Diamond League competition.

Overcoming this serback and a slight back injury, Sally produced an incredible winning performance in the heats and sem-finals leading through to her winning the Olympic title in the Final.

Sally was made a Member of the Order of Australia - General Division (OAM) on January 26th 2014 for service to sport as a gold medallist at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

When considering the stature of an athlete or for that matter any person, I set great store in certain qualities which I believe to be essential in addition to skill. They are that the person conducts his of her life with dignity, with integrity, courage, and perhaps most of all, with modesty.
