Socceroos 1974 (Football) - 1974

The 1974 Socceroos side won through to the final 16 of theFIFA World Cup. The scale of that feat becomes apparent when you realise that they were a semi-professional team (they all had jobs outside football). The group of tradesmen, miners and salesmen took on the world's elite in Germany, and set a benchmark which no Australian side would match until 2006.
