Team Sport Australia Award

The Sport Australia Hall of Fame introduced this category award in 2002 to acknowledge and recognise the skills and commitment of sportsmen and sportswomen who have so often and so successfully taken Australia to the top of the international and national ladder through their abilities to deliver winning team results.

In recognising the increasing important role being played by our team athletes, this award also acknowledges the importance of team sport as a catalyst for raising the bar on individual performances.

Teams recognised  for this award are not inducted into The Sport Australia Hall of Fame but are acknowledged for their contribution to our nations sporting history and are honoured in the ‘Spirit of Sport’ Gallery in the National Sports Museum.

When considering the stature of an athlete or for that matter any person, I set great store in certain qualities which I believe to be essential in addition to skill. They are that the person conducts his of her life with dignity, with integrity, courage, and perhaps most of all, with modesty. These virtues are totally compatible with pride, ambition, and competitiveness.
