Next Generation of Champions Awarded Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarships

The Sport Australia Hall of Fame’s (SAHOF) vision is to preserve the history of Australian sport and to excite the next generation of Australians to achieve their potential in both sport and life and the SAHOF Scholarship and Mentoring Program is one opportunity to continue achieving this vision.

“Our Scholarship & Mentoring Program continues to exceed expectations and at the 28th Sport Australia Hall of Fame Annual Induction and Awards Gala Dinner on October 11, five new Scholarships with mentoring by SAHOF Members, were awarded. This represents the opportunity of a lifetime to draw on the experience and wisdom of our Members as their Mentors.” said John Bertrand AM, Chairman of The Sport Australia Hall of Fame.

As well as mentoring, each Scholarship recipient will receive return Etihad Airways international flights to assist with international competition experience and also a $5,000 cash grant to assist with their sporting expenses.

Four of the five recipients received their Scholarship in front of over 100 of Australia’s greatest sporting luminaries and a sell-out crowd of 1000 pax at the 2012 Gala Dinner where eight new Members were inducted into The Sport Australia Hall of Fame.

When considering the stature of an athlete or for that matter any person, I set great store in certain qualities which I believe to be essential in addition to skill. They are that the person conducts his of her life with dignity, with integrity, courage, and perhaps most of all, with modesty.
