Kurt Mulcahy - Athletics
Kurt Mulcahy placed a promising NRL career with the Sydney Roosters on hold to pursue his dream of representing Australia at the Beijing Olympics and London 2012. The Roosters identified Mulcahy as a serious talent two years ago and signed him to a four-year scholarship. However, CEO Brian Canavan said they would not stand in his way of running at the Olympics.
Kurt, an AIS Scholarship athlete based in Canberra, is firmly regarded as one of Australian Track & Field's most promising young athletes and he is set to continue his dominance at Australian and International level in the in the 200m & 400m.
Kurt who finished fourth in the 2008 World Junior Championships, ran a new personal best of 45.90 secs, a World Championship B qualifying performance, at the ACT Track and Field Championships in February, 2009. Kurt also won the 200m in a new PB of 20.89. He again lowered his 400m PB in the Sydney Track Classic in February,where he finished third in 45.84 secs, and followed that up with a 47.08 secs at the Melbourne World Athletic Tour Meet in March.
Kurt competed in the Australian Championships and National Selection Trials in March, finishing 3rd in the Open 400m, and will now compete in the World University Games in Belgrade in July. Kurt will also be considered for the Mens 4 x 400m relay at the World Championships to be held in Berlin in August
