Jordin Watson - Surfing

Jordin is the first surfer to be offered a Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship, and he is most certainly a worth recipient. Over the past three years Jordi has shown tremendous talent and promise as one of Australia’s up and coming surfing stars.

Throughout 2011 Jordi has competed on the Pro Junior Circuit and recently returned from the Philippines where he placed 5th in the Pro Junior Billabong Cloud Nine Wave. Jordi has one more season competing in Pro Junior series this year before joining the Men’s series.

Jordi was selected as Captain of the 2010 Team Australia at the U/18 Championships where he achieved 5th place, while at the 2010 ISA World Titles in New Zealand he won silver in the individual category and gold in the team category.

In 2009 Jordi won bronze at the Australian National Surfing Titles in Western Australia and was successful in winning gold medals at both the NSW State Titles and the South Coast Regional Surfing Titles in the Under 18 category.

Jordi is currently working on a three to four year plan for his future. At this time Jordi is competing in the Pro Junior Australasian Championships and aspires to compete in more International competitions over the coming years. In order to achieve these goals Jordi hopes to compete in the WGS Men’s Series and accrue enough rating points to achieve a seeded position in 2013.

When considering the stature of an athlete or for that matter any person, I set great store in certain qualities which I believe to be essential in addition to skill. They are that the person conducts his of her life with dignity, with integrity, courage, and perhaps most of all, with modesty. These virtues are totally compatible with pride, ambition, and competitiveness.
