Deanna Lockett - Short Track Speed Skating

After first stepping onto the ice at the age of 8, in Brisbane, Lockett went to weekly sessions and began to love going fast.  Her parents then decided to take her to a speed skating session. Lockett progressed through the age divisions winning national titles from 9-years old.

In 2010 the National Program moved to Melbourne. Due to Lockett’s enthusiasm and commitment, her family made the huge decision to move from Brisbane to Melbourne.  Lockett changed from a club skater to an international athlete, making her international debut in 2012, at just 15 years old. In Lockett’s first ever World Cup she came 11th in the 1500m making the B-final.  In the 2013 season Lockett had two A- final top 5 performances in the 1500m & 1000m, as well as a World Junior bronze medal.

When considering the stature of an athlete or for that matter any person, I set great store in certain qualities which I believe to be essential in addition to skill. They are that the person conducts his of her life with dignity, with integrity, courage, and perhaps most of all, with modesty. These virtues are totally compatible with pride, ambition, and competitiveness.
