Daniel Frey

Daniel Frey is shotput and discus throw athlete who was awarded a Tier 3 Scholarship within the Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship and Mentoring Program.

Daniel is a 16 year old and from the small rural village of Nimbin in the Northern Rivers of NSW. Daniel’s progression as an athlete is exciting to say the least; over the past 3 years he’s made a name for himself on the national stage achieving a national medal each year for 3 years consecutively.

Recently, he has represented Australia on the international stage at the Oceania Games where he placed 2nd in shotput to defeat the national champion. Daniel is excited to push and exceed his limits as an athlete with his future performances.

“Being a successful SAHOF Scholarship recipient truly means a lot for my progression as an athlete and my future outlook for the sport. The financial support will ease the burden of travel and accommodation costs for my national competitions in the next coming year. Without this support my family would not be able to afford to make multiple trips across Australia, as a rural athlete travel is a huge cost being nearly 1000kms away from Sydney where I compete for my state championships where travel multiple times per year to qualify for nationals. The financial aid will also support supplement and food costs, as a strength athlete the food bill is quite high so this support will definitely help get me all the protein I need.  Sporting equipment is another large cost as well, this aid will allow for us to afford new gym equipment and vital throwing shoes which I wear through every year. The potential connections I gain from this program are also quite exciting and the knowledge I gain from the various workshops for elite athlete mentoring!” – Daniel Frey on being selected as a 2025 Scholarship Holder
