An Act of Sportsmanship – John Landy

An act of sportsmanship that took place at Olympic Park, Melbourne, during the Australian Mile Championship’s in March 1956, in which John Landy stopped to help fallen Ron Clarke was voted the Finest Sporting Moment of the century at a Gala Dinner in 1999.

Landy’s feat in going on to win the mile race has been overshadowed by the unselfish gesture that is part of Australian sporting folklore.
