Carstens Beyers is a judo athlete who was awarded a Tier 3 Scholarship within the 2025 Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship and Mentoring Program.

Carstens, 18 years old, has been practicing judo for about 12 years. He began the sport due to his father’s influence, a dedicated judoka who founded a club shortly after relocating to Melbourne from South Africa. Of course, Carstens was the first student to enrol. His parents have consistently provided immense support for his judo career, ensuring he achieves his personal judo goals.

He now trains at the National Performance Centre for Judo in Melbourne and is a member of the Junior National Team in the -90kg category. He has achieved two International gold medals in 2023 in the cadet (-18) age category, and was the national champion in both cadets and Juniors in 2023.

Carstens is working towards getting results in Junior World Championships in the next couple of years, and going to the Olympics in the future.

“I am very grateful to be a SAHOF Scholarship recipient because it will provide me a lot of support for my Judo career both financially and with my development as an athlete.” – Carstens Beyers on being selected as a 2025 Tier 3 Scholarship Holder.
