DATE OF BIRTH

12/06/2006

Dylan Jay Soin is a sport climber who was awarded a Tier 2 Scholarship within the 2023 Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship and Mentoring Program.

Born in Liverpool in 2006, Dylan is an avid climber who grew up watching his sister climb before taking up the sport himself in 2016. He now competes in indoor climbing, but very much enjoys outdoor climbing too.

At the age of 12, Dylan won the Boulder, Lead and Overall disciplines at the 2019 Youth Australian Climbing National Championships then, after a hiatus in 2020/2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he secured the Lead title again at the 2022 Youth Australian Climbing National Championships.

In 2021/2022, at 15 years of age, Dylan competed in several open-age competitions. He secured a place in both Australian Youth and Open Teams, competing in the IFSC 2022 Youth World Championships in Dallas, Texas and the IFSC Open World Cup in Edinburgh (Lead discipline).

Dylan is a fierce competitor, yet he encourages inclusivity in the sport and encourages others to give climbing a go. Away from climbing, Dylan harbours a desire to become a surgeon and with his work ethic and commitment, we expect to see many more successes come his way in the future.

It means being able to have a network of like-minded athletes perhaps in the same boat as you are, it means that we can feel supported as competitors and rise together. Being able to be supported in the sport I love means so much and being able to have a support network means so much for me as a young athlete.” –  Dylan Soin on being selected as a 2023 Tier 2 Scholarship Holder.
