Gabriella (Gaby) Blewitt is a Taekwondo athlete who was awarded a Tier 3 Scholarship within the Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship and Mentoring Program.

Gaby started Taekwondo at age 4 and ever since she has not stopped ambitiously striving for her Olympic goals. Gaby lived with her family in Sydney training at her home club, Spirit Taekwondo until January 2025, when at the age of 17 she was selected into the National Performance Centre (NPC) located in Melbourne, where only the top 12 Taekwondo athletes in Australia train. She made the commitment, along with many sacrifices, to pursue both her athletic and academic dreams moving interstate to train as a full-time athlete at the National Performance Centre in Melbourne. At the same time, she commenced her studies in a Bachelor of Biomedicine at The University of Melbourne. Moving interstate at such a young age has not only proven her dedication to her improvement but highlighted her drive to be the best she can be in an environment filled with opportunity.

Gaby has represented Australia at numerous international events, with competitive results such as quarter final finish at the 2024 Junior World Championships, gold at the 2024 US Open, silver at the 2024 Canada Open, gold at the Australian Open (in the senior division as a last year junior) and bronze at the 2024 Oceania Presidents Cup (in the senior division as a last year junior). Furthermore, in April 2024, Gaby unexpectedly underwent knee surgery, followed by two months of intensive rehabilitation — just in time for the Junior World Championship Selection event. Remarkably, she competed only two months post-surgery, after spending six weeks on crutches and just two weeks walking — a true testament to her determination and disciplined approach to recovery.

In 2025, Gaby’s change of coaches and the introduction of a more rigorous training schedule, combined with the challenges of living independently while working and studying, brought moments of difficulty — but also deep gratitude for the opportunities she’s been given. Gaby’s commitment and trust in the process saw her win gold at the 2025 Australian Open (senior), gold at the Senior World Championship Selections (World Champs to be held later in the year), silver at the 2025 Oceania Presidents Cup (senior) and commendable performances at her first Grand Prix challenges. With many more events on the horizon, Gaby is gaining valuable experience and training in addition to her results as a first year senior with her new coaches at the NPC, Seok Hun Lee and Ryan Carneli, supported by her strength and conditioning coach, Yosup Kim, at the Victorian Institute of Sport.

In her first year as a senior athlete, she is currently ranked 10th in the world for the -62kg division and is climbing the ranks in Olympic -57kg category as of September 2025. Her eyes and heart are set on the 2028 Olympic Games as she continues to work hard, enjoy and trust in the process.

Outside of her sport, Gaby is set on continuing her studies to pursue a doctor of medicine and become a surgeon or sports doctor.

I am honoured to be a recipient of the SAHOF Scholarship and proud to be identified for my commitment, sacrifice and discipline as an elite athlete. This scholarship not only provides me with financial support but creates valuable opportunities for me to connect with a community of similar values in high performance sport. I am grateful and excited to continue my ambitious journey with the support of SAHOF to reach my full potential in a supportive and excelling environment.”– Gaby Blewitt on being selected as a 2026 Scholarship Holder.
