He knew what was needed but no man in Olympic history had ever done it. When Matthew Mitcham leapt from the ten metre tower the world thought he was diving for silver…. in fact he was aiming at gold.

He had left the sport in 2006 but returned at Beijing to become the first Australian diving gold medalist since 1924. His score of 112 point ten – the highest recorded in Olympic history.
