DATE OF BIRTH

Nicholas Odgers is a modern pentathlon athlete who was awarded a Tier 3 Scholarship with the Sport Australia Hall of Fame 2026 Scholarship and Mentoring Program.

From Brisbane beginnings to formative years on the Sunshine Coast and a three-year stint in Bangkok, Nick’s childhood was marked by variety and movement. Yet Canberra, where he has spent most of his life, became the true home of his sporting journey.

In his youth, Nick explored a range of sports, but swimming and athletics captured his interest early on. He competed at state and national levels throughout his junior years, and this dual background eventually led him to aquathlon. In 2023, he represented Australia at the Junior World Championships in Ibiza, Spain, placing 15th.

In September 2024, Nick was invited to attend a modern pentathlon national camp and took up the sport as a talent transfer. With no prior experience in fencing, shooting, or obstacle-course racing, he committed to mastering all five disciplines, embracing the unique challenges of the sport. Just months later, in April 2025, Nick won the Australian Junior (U22) National title in his first-ever pentathlon, beating all the senior athletes in the field. This result secured his place at the 2025 Junior World Championships in Hungary and the Relay World Championships in Egypt.

Following a breakout season, Nick is now focused on refining his skills across all disciplines and climbing the international ranks in modern pentathlon. With a strong endurance background, a proven ability to adapt quickly, and a growing passion for the sport, Nick hopes to build a long-term competitive career and has his sights firmly set on the Olympic Games.

After Nick’s career in sport, he hopes to become a Mathematics and Physical Education teacher. Nick has had so many inspirational and influential teachers who have impacted his life, and one day he hopes to have the same impact and be a role model for the next generation.

“I’m incredibly honoured and grateful to receive a Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship amongst so many talented young athletes. To be recognised for my sporting achievements and hard work means a great deal, and I’m excited to continue to grow as an athlete and person with the support of the program. ”– Nicholas Odgers on being selected as a 2026 Scholarship Holder.
