Nya Hayman is an Olympic Weightlifter who was awarded a Tier 2 Scholarship within the 2026 Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship & Mentoring Program.

Nya was born and raised in Rockhampton, Queensland before moving to Brisbane to compete in Weightlifting. Nya grew up participating in many sports such as BMX, Netball, Dance and Trampolining. It wasn’t until 2019 she first picked up a barbell after joining a local CrossFit gym (VidaFit) enjoying functional and competitive nature with her family. It then wasn’t until Covid lock-downs of 2020 Nya began training at home seeking out a Weightlifting Coach to help with her technique. They were guided to Cougars Weightlifting Club of Brisbane where she picked up remote coaching with Miles Wydall whilst continuing her CrossFit training.

Nya qualified for her first International Competition debut in June of 2022 – the IWF Youth World Championships in Leon, Mexico where placed 12th. As of 2025 Nya solely dedicates herself to Olympic Weightlifting and has since competed in four World Championship Events, holds seven Junior and two Senior National Records and has been awarded multiple Junior, U23 and Senior National Championships.

In her most recent events Nya won four gold medals at the 2025 Mini Pacific Games in Palau (Senior) and 2025 Senior Oceania Champion as well as 1st Place Junior at the Commonwealth Championship 2025 and 4th Place in the Senior Division. Nya is currently looking toward the future continuing her future in Olympic Weightlifting and dedicates her success to her personal coaches, team, friends, family and amazing community.

Her aspiration for life after sport is to look back knowing she gave 110% effort — cutting no corners and never placing limits on performance or potential. She wants to leave the culture of Australian Weightlifting better than she found it, creating a supportive environment where younger athletes feel believed in and empowered. She hopes to teach and inspire those who, like a younger version of herself, are searching for someone to support them and help them reach their potential.

“I feel truly honoured to be recognised as a Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship T2 recipient. To be considered alongside so many respected Australian athletes is incredibly humbling. I’m very grateful for this unique opportunity to be recognised by SAHOF, such a prestigious organisation within Australian sport. It’s a huge honour — something I will always be proud of and grateful for. This scholarship not only supports my development in Weightlifting, but also allows me to connect with many great like-minded individuals who inspire me to continue striving for excellence in my athletic career.” – Nya Hayman on being selected as a 2026 Tier 2 Scholarship Holder.
