Emirates x Sport Australia Hall of Fame – Celebrating 70 years of excellence at the Australian open

Last week, at the Emirates Marquee during the Australian Open, we celebrated a combined 70 years of excellence — forty years of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame and thirty years of Emirates flying to Melbourne. The evening reflected the shared values of longevity, ambition, and excellence that sit at the heart of sport and this partnership.
We were honoured to be joined by our Hall of Fame Members including: our Chair, John Bertrand AO, our Co-Patron Dawn Fraser AC MBE, Ricky Ponting AO, Belinda Clark AO, Andrew Gaze AO, Steve Hooker OAM, Nick Green OAM, Sue Stanley OAM, Louis Sauvage OAM, Wally Lewis AM, and Dr Lauren Burns OAM, whose achievements have inspired generations of Australians. It was also a pleasure to have two of our SAHOF Scholarship Holders, Katarina Egan and Izzy Egan, celebrating alongside the members and representing the next generation of sporting excellence.
The Emirates Marquee provided the perfect setting to bring together champions past and future on one of the world’s truly great sporting stages. Thank you to Emirates and the Australian Open for hosting such a memorable evening, full of connection, celebration, and inspiration.
Warne: Treasures of a Legend

Rugby League Legend Wally Lewis recently visited the Australian Sports Museum to experience Warne: Treasures of a Legend, a special exhibition celebrating Shane Warne and the moments that crowned him the ‘King of Spin’. Featuring prized items from his sporting career, the exhibition offers a fascinating look at the legacy of one of Australia’s greatest athletes.
Open daily from 10 am to 5 pm, with guided sessions every 20 minutes from 10 am to 4:20 pm. SAHOF members can enjoy lifetime access to explore the museum and all its exhibitions, including special showcases like this one.

Selection Committee Updates

We are excited to welcome Karen Murphy AM to the Sport Australia Hall of Fame Selection Committee. One of Australia’s greatest lawn bowls players, Karen’s legendary career includes five world championship golds, multiple Commonwealth Games medals, and over 660 international appearances. Known as the “queen of the green,” she has been a trailblazer for women in sport and continues to inspire the next generation through coaching and mentorship. Her expertise and insight will be invaluable as we celebrate and select Australia’s sporting greats.
