2017 Australian Spirit Luncheon

The Sport Australian Hall of Fame Chair John Bertrand AO proudly co hosted the 2017 Australian Spirit Luncheon with the 2017 Sport Australia Hall of Fame Co-Patrons, the Hon Robert (Bob) Hawke AC and the Hon John Howard OM AC SSI. The Luncheon was held at the Park Hyatt overlooking the magnificent Sydney Harbour and iconic Opera House.

The private luncheon was held for the 2nd year running to raise funds for and awareness of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame’s exceptional Scholarship & Mentoring Program which has helped support 66 young Australian athletes over the past 11 years.

Sport is a known unifier, and it is through their love of sport that Mr Hawke and Mr Howard have come together in their role as Co-Patrons of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.

The gathering of 35 guests appreciated the unique opportunity to hear from two of Australia’s longest serving Prime Minister’s in such an intimate environment. John Bertrand led the two on a thought provoking and highly entertaining interview where they spoke of their time leading our nation, their hopes for Australia’s sporting future and how their passion for sport unites the two. And, as would be expected, it wasn’t all politics and business, with good natured banter bringing many smiles to the room.

Members of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame Members including Dawn Fraser, Simon Poidevin, Graeme Lloyd, Kieren Perkins and John O’Neill were on hand to welcome guests and act as special guest table hosts and we thank them for their generosity of time.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this event come to life; Park Hyatt, Phillip Carr and Associates and photographer Nadine Saacks Photography.
