India Colombi is a Senior International Artistic gymnast who was awarded a Tier 3 Scholarship within the 2024 Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship and Mentoring Program.

India was born in Adelaide, South Australia, however, moved to Italy at just 5 weeks old, where she spent the next few years before relocating to Australia with her parents and twin sister.

India started gymnastics at the age of five after she was offered a place in the Gymnastics South Australia High Performance program, following a talent identification opportunity at her primary school. India developed her passion for gymnastics there. She committed to the program and the long hours of training, and from a young age, she was selected for various training camps at the AIS. She competed nationally as part of the State Team and was awarded Elite Gymnast of the Year in 2018 and 2019 by Gymnastics South Australia. She remained with the Women’s High-Performance program until it closed in December 2019.

In February 2020, India made a huge decision which enabled her to continue her gymnastics pathway. She moved to Brisbane, 2000kms away from her family and friends, and became part of the high performance program at Delta Gymnastics at just 13 years old. New state, new school, new gym and new environment weren’t the only things she had to adapt to. It was also the beginning of Covid.

She continues to reside in Brisbane where she is now a Senior International gymnast, classified by the Gymnastics Australia Framework as an emerging athlete.  She is also a high achiever at school where she is currently a year 11 student, working within the ATAR pathway. She loves languages and studies French and Italian. She also enjoys school sport, recently competing for the School Districts Carnival and placing 2nd for her school in her age division sprints.

India has been lucky enough to experience training in Italy a few times over the years, and she can’t wait until she is ready for her first international competition. Gymnastics and travel are her passions which fuel her future goal to make the Australian Team and represent Australia at big international competitions such as World Championships, Commonwealth Games and maybe even the Olympics someday.

“I am honoured to receive this scholarship next to so many inspirational athletes across so many different sports. I am also incredibly grateful as this scholarship will assist me in continuing on my pathway. I have learnt that there are always sacrifices when chasing dreams, and to be selected for this scholarship and program is very motivational for me. I’m excited about my ongoing personal development, knowing I’m on the right path” – India Colombi on being selected as a 2024 Tier 3 Scholarship Holder
