Jesse Moore is a gymnast who was awarded a Tier 3 Scholarship within the 2022 Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship and Mentoring Program.
Jesse was born in Adelaide, South Australia, in 2003 and started gymnastics at the age of six. He showed so much early talent that he was soon selected in the Gymnastics South Australia high-performance program GymJets.
Jesse enjoyed success at state level and won the All-Around age title at the national championships in 2015, in what his second appearance at this level. He then won the same title for the next four years consecutively, and in 2018 made his international debut. He participated in junior competitions in the USA, Colombia and France and won a bronze medal on the High Bar at the Pacific Rim Championships. He then qualified for the Junior World Championships in Hungary in 2019, where he finished seventh on the Horizontal Bar.
In his first senior international competition in 2021, Jesse finished fourth in the All-Around competition at the Continental Championships and narrowly missed a spot on the Olympic Games team for Tokyo. At the same event, he was the second-placed Australian in the All-Around, Parallel Bars and Floor, and fourth on three other apparatus.
Consistent results at junior and senior level earned Jesse a position at the National Training Centre within the Australian Institute of Sport with a focus on future international success. When Jesse eventually finishes competitive gymnastics, he would like to remain involved in the sport and to become a physiotherapist.
“It’s certainly an honour to receive this Scholarship as it is an acknowledgment of what I have achieved so far and will definitely support me in my future sporting goals. It is also a great honour to be a Scholarship Holder in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame among so many great Australian athletes. I can only hope that I am able to achieve what these athletes have done and be recognised as a Member in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. I am sure this scholarship is one of many steps that will help me achieve this goal.” – Jesse Moore on being selected as a 2022 Tier 3 Scholarship Holder.
