The Sport Australia Hall of Fame welcomes two new Athlete Members to our Board of Directors

The Sport Australia Hall of Fame is delighted to welcome two new Board members, Karen Murphy AM and Kim Brennan AM.

Chair John Bertrand AO said: “It is our great pleasure to welcome both Kim Brennan AM and Karen Murphy AM to our Board. Both bring an extraordinary depth of sporting excellence, a deep understanding of Australian sport and a genuine commitment to its future, combined with the governance and leadership experience that will make them outstanding additions to the Hall of Fame as we plan for its future. Both new Athlete Member Directors bring a wealth of knowledge and experience, and we look forward to the valuable contributions they will make to the Board.”

Karen Murphy AM

We warmly welcome Karen Murphy AM to the Sport Australia Hall of Fame Board of Directors. Five-time world champion, Commonwealth Games gold medallist, and winner of over 300 titles worldwide, Karen was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in 2021 for her significant service to the sport of lawn bowls. Representing her country in more than 660 appearances, Karen was a trailblazer who helped elevate Australian women’s bowls to world number one in her era. Beyond her playing career, Karen brings deep expertise in coaching and sports governance to the Board, having served as National Assistant Coach and Head Para Coach of the Jackaroos, and having sat on the Sport Australia Hall of Fame Selection Committee. Inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2024, and becoming an inaugural inductee of the World Bowls Hall of Fame in 2025, Karen’s elite sporting knowledge, insight and commitment to the next generation of athletes will be a tremendous contribution to the Board.

Kim Brennan AM 

We also warmly welcome Kim Brennan AM to the Sport Australia Hall of Fame Board of Directors. A sixteen-time national champion, two-time World Champion, three-time Olympian and Olympic gold medallist, Kim is also a winner of the Thomas Keller Medal, awarded once each year for lifetime contribution to and achievement in the sport of rowing worldwide. Beyond her extraordinary athletic career, Kim brings a unique blend of elite sporting achievement and deep corporate governance expertise to the Board. As a technology consulting partner at EY Australia and a qualified lawyer, she specialises in enterprise strategy, artificial intelligence transformation, and large-scale business architecture, and has translated the dedication, resilience, and strategic thinking of an Olympic champion into high-impact corporate leadership. Kim’s governance experience includes serving as Chair and Deputy Chair of the Australian Olympic Committee’s Athletes’ Commission and chairing the Australian Sports Foundation’s Finance, Audit and Risk Committee. Her insight, integrity, and rare combination of sporting and corporate expertise will be an invaluable asset to the Board.
