The Sport Australia Hall of Fame is mourning the passing of esteemed Member Kevan Gosper AO who passed away on Friday July 19 at the age of 90. Kevan Gosper AO was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1989 as a General Member for his contribution to sports administration.
Kevan was also an exceptional athlete, a world-class 400m runner who won a silver medal at the 1956 Olympics and gold at the 1954 Commonwealth Games. His commitment to the Olympic ideals was reflected in his many roles within the AOC and IOC.
Chair John Bertrand AO said “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Sport Australia Hall of Fame Member Kevan Gosper AO, at the age of 90. Kevan’s impact on Australian sport, particularly through the Olympic movement, was extraordinary. His leadership and dedication as the inaugural chairman of the Australian Institute of Sport and former president of the Australian Olympic Federation were unparalleled. On behalf of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, to Judy, Dean, Brett, Richard, Sophie, and the extended family, we send our heartfelt condolences. Kevan’s legacy will forever inspire us.”
