Alexander ‘Alex’ Edmondson is a cyclist and Olympian who was awarded a Scholarship within the 2013 Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship and Mentoring Program, he was paired with Phil Smyth as his Mentor.

Alex was born in Miri, Malaysian Borneo, in 1993, and spent time living in the Netherlands and Oman before settling in Adelaide.

Alex specialises in track cycling, particularly the Pursuit and Madison events, and arrived on the international scene in 2011. He won the Madison at the Junior World Track Championships and won the Team Pursuit gold in a new world record. He also won gold in the Madison and silver in the Team Pursuit at the World Cup event in Kazakhstan that same year.

In 2012, Alex again dominated the boards, with silver at the World Cup event in China and a gold medal at the Australian Track Championships, before another gold at the World Cup in London. His form and results earned him selection in the team for the Olympic Games in London. A year later, he was named South Australian Sports Star of the Year.

2014 brought more success, with two gold medals at the Track Cycling World Championships, and more gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. In 2016, Alex began riding for the Australia-based professional road cycling team GreenEdge in the world tour and won a silver medal in the Team Pursuit on the track at the Rio Olympic Games.

During the following seasons, Alex enjoyed success on the road. He won the national road race championship in 2018 and was a member of the national team at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
