Caroline Buchanan is a cyclist and Olympian who was awarded a Scholarship within the 2011 Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship and Mentoring Program, she was paired with Robert de Castella AO MBE as her Mentor.

Caroline was born in Canberra in 1990 and specialises in Mountain Bike and BMX cycling. She made her mark in 2012 when she won the BMX World Cup Series and competed at the London Olympic Games.

In 2013, she was named People’s Choice Australian Cyclist of the Year, AIS Australian Athlete of the Year and Australian Cyclist of the Year after winning the national championships and the world championships in BMX. She followed this with gold in 4 Cross at the Mountain Bike World Championships.

Caroline would win another 4 BMX world championships and many more World Cup races in BMX. In 2014, she was named BMX Rider of the Year at the Inter Bike Awards and took the overall title at the BMX World Cup Series, before returning to Australia in 2015 to claim one of her four national titles in BMX. She would also win 4 Australian titles in Mountain Biking throughout her career and was named BMX Australian Cyclist of the Year five times.

Training and racing continued in 2016, and so did the victories. Caroline was the World Champion in the Time Trial as well as the World Champion in 4 Cross again. She was the Australian Mountain Bike Cyclist of the Year, an Olympian for the second time, and even won an award for ‘sickest moves’ on a bike.

Caroline then became Mountain Bike World Series Pumptrack Champion at Crankworx in 2017, the same year she won another 4 Cross world title and was a finalist in the AIS Personality of the Year award.
