Isobel ‘Izzy’ Egan is a rower who was awarded a Tier 1 Scholarship within the 2026 Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship & Mentoring Program. She was paired with former Paralympic Gold Medallist and SAHOF Legend Louise Sauvage OAM as her Mentor.
Izzy started her rowing career at her school Radford College in Canberra in Year 7 after going through a wide variety of sports as a child. After a simple introduction to the sport she soon learnt its technical and endurance challenges, either pushing to the line efficiently in a single scull or trying to stay coordinated in a quadruple scull, it was all hard work and a big learning curve for those willing to pursue it.
In the four years since she started she has made it her goal to improve every race, and over the course of many state and interstate regattas the effort payed off in 2025 with her first races in the PR3 category. At the NSW Rowing Championships, Izzy came first in the Open PR3 Single Scull, second in the PR3 Mixed Double and first in Schoolgirl Double Scull, unexpected podiums that led to even greater wins. At the Australian Rowing Championships, Izzy came first in the Open PR3 Single Scull, PR3 Mixed Double and the PR3 Single Scull Sprint leading to a selection to trial for the U23 Australian Team.
In July 2025, Izzy competed at the U23 Rowing Championships in Poznan, Poland and came second in the new PR3 Single Scull event, she is now looking forward to the Nationals next year and potentially international competitions, with her long-term goal being the Paralympics or Olympics.
Outside of rowing, Izzy wants to contribute meaningfully in her community, being selected as a School Captain for 2026, she aims to use her leadership role to help her school and especially athletes achieve their goals through fostering respect and belonging.
Izzy wants to make a difference – whether that’s through politics, science, or sport she is keen to create positive change. Passionate about making sport and nutrition accessible for everyone, she hopes to be a role model for what’s possible. No matter where her path leads, she aims to be a leader who helps to create environments where all people can thrive.
“A SAHOF scholarship is what is taking me to the next level as an athlete. It is such an honour to be awarded a Tier 1 scholarship, where I will be given so many opportunities to not only improve myself but gain the skills to help other girls in sport achieve their goals too. The part of the scholarship I think is the most valuable is the mentor program, getting to talk to Louise Sauvage whose experience in how to balance life and sport will be so beneficial for me to set up good plans at a younger age. Being equipped with advice on what the international stage is like and how to be an activist will help me make the most change.” – Isobel Egan on being selected as a 2026 Tier 1 Scholarship Holder.
