Jack McShane is a Lawn Bowler who was awarded a Tier 2 Scholarship within the 2026 Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship & Mentoring Program.
Jack was born in Sydney in 2005 and has always had a true passion for sport. From a young age Jack played every sport he could get his hands on but at the age of nine took up the sport of Bowls and hasn’t looked back since. Jack started off working his way through the Under 18 system in NSW backed by his home club, Club Merrylands, having some minor successes before winning the NSW U18 Singles title in 2022. That year Jack also made the leap into Open level competition where he won the NSW Open State Pairs and State Fours titles which granted him entry to play the Australian Championships where he won a Gold in the Pairs and a Silver in the Fours. At the conclusion of the year Jack was chosen in the Australian Pathways squad to honour his recent achievements.
The following year was a bit quieter for Jack as he took time off to focus on his HSC. However, he still maintained all of his training and focus which came to a head in June 2024 where he made a massive statement and won the coveted Australian Open Pairs title whilst also getting a silver in the fours at the same event. This gave Jack the belief in his ability to compete at the highest level which he backed up by winning the Australian Indoor Singles Title two months later at Club Tweed. 2024 continued to be very fruitful for Jack as he got to put on the Australian uniform for the first time and represent his country in the development squad at the Oceania Challenge in New Zealand. Jack walked away from this event with a gold in the fours and when he arrived back in Sydney he was named the NSW Open Bowler of the year for 2024 at the Bowls NSW Awards Night.
2025 led on from 2024 as Jack had gained qualification to represent Australia at the World Indoor Championships in Scotland. Jack walked away from this event with a gold and became the youngest World Indoor Champion at the age of 19, which was made even more special by having his parents there to celebrate with him. Since coming back from Scotland Jack has won multiple State titles including the NSW Champion of Champion Singles title and most recently he won the famed Golden Nugget Invitational Singles at the end of July. All of this recent success has seen Jack be elevated to number two on the World Bowls Series rankings which will enable him to challenge for another World title at the end of the year.
Outside of Bowls Jack loves to still play other sports when he can and tries to get out on the golf course as much as possible. Jack also wants to make sure he has a career in sports management after Bowls has stopped to ensure he is set up for the future no matter what happens along the way. Ideally, Jack’s major goal would be to compete at the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the 2032 Brisbane Olympics if Bowls is added as a sport for those games. His aspirations for life after sport are to have a career in the management side of the sports world or if not that then anything involving physical activity as that has always been his passion.
“I’m absolutely over the moon to be a SAHOF Scholarship recipient and be alongside all of the other amazing sporting talent in this nation. I’ve got big aspirations and goals in my sport and cannot wait to use all the fantastic resources that come with this scholarship to help me strive to succeed and achieve my goals in the future” – Jack McShane on being selected as a 2026 Tier 2 Scholarship Holder.
