MENTOR

-

DATE OF BIRTH

14/07/2003

Jett Carlin was awarded a Tier 3 Scholarship within the 2022 Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship and Mentoring Program, and is the first hammer thrower to be selected in the program.

Jett was born in Adelaide in 2003 into a family of illustrious athletes, and he has built on that tradition. He excelled in Shot Putt and Discus at primary school then settled on Hammer Throw after winning his first national junior title in 2016.

Jett won gold in the U/14 Hammer Throw at the Australian Track and Field Championships in 2016, and repeated the achievement in every age group until 2019. For an extra challenge, he also competed in the age group above at every national championship between 2016 and 2019, and finished on the podium on each occasion. He added to his medal haul with numerous victories at the Australian All Schools Championships.

COVID cancellations denied him the opportunity to win more titles in 2020, and to compete in the World Athletics U20 Championships, but he returned in 2021 to take the national U20 title and assert himself as Australia’s premier junior hammer thrower.

The Carlin family of throwers includes Jett’s father and coach Paul, a Commonwealth Games representative, and Uncle Sean, who is a dual Commonwealth Games gold medallist and two-time Olympian. His younger brother PJ has won multiple national championships in Shot Putt.

Jett aspires to win medals at the Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games until 2034, and to work as a paramedic, first responder or a nurse anesthetist. He is also passionate about mentoring future generations of throwers in his local community.

“I am super grateful for this opportunity and excited for what the next year has in store for me. Whilst many people may think it is about the money, it’s not. To be a Scholarship recipient from Sport Australia Hall of Fame means to me that there are people who believe in my path and are there to support me on my journey. Track and Field is a very individual sport and you do everything from training to recovery by yourself, so to know there is connection being built with SAHOF is amazing.” –  Jett Carlin on being selected as a 2022 Tier 3 Scholarship Holder.
