Victoria Alcantara is a figure skater who was awarded a Tier 3 Scholarship within the 2022 Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship and Mentoring Program.

Victoria’s skating career began at age six in Melbourne, where she was born in 2006. Her obvious talent was nurtured at the Melbourne Figure Skating Club, and at age 10 she won the national novice title as well as the Victorian novice title. She won the state novice title again in 2017 and 2018 and decided to move to Seoul, Dallas, then Toronto in 2019 to further develop her skating. She then returned to Australia that year to claim the national junior championship.

The decision to move her life overseas soon paid dividends. She finished 12th in her Australian junior representative debut at the ISU Junior Grand Prix in Lake Placid, USA, in 2019, and qualified for the ISU Junior World Championships in Estonia in 2020 as a 14-year-old after strong performances at the Grand Prix of Bratislava, Slovakia, and the Mentor Cup Trophy in Torun, Poland.

At the 2021 ISA National Online championships, she won the senior title and finished second in juniors.

Victoria is now based permanently in Toronto as she chases her dreams on the ice and prepares for a future involving coaching, choreography, sports psychology, as well as designing costumes and clothing.

“Being a successful Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship Holder is a great honour and privilege, as I am part of an elite family of athletes that have achieved their personal and sporting dreams whilst representing Australia. Their inspirational stories about how they overcame their internal and external challenges as they committed their lives to their sport has motivated me to further grow as an individual, as well as an elite athlete in terms of maturity and discipline. I am excited about my ongoing personal development knowing I’m on the right path, and feel truly grateful being supported by Australia’s best-of-the-best sports mentoring program.” – Victoria Alcantara on being selected as a 2022 Tier 3 Scholarship Holder.
