The 1963 Australian Netball team travelled by sea to attend the inaugural Netball World Cup and conducted their daily training and preparation on the ship’s deck.
They were one of eleven countries that competed in the tournament and emerged the undefeated winners and the sport’s first World Champions. They defeated New Zealand in the final by a single goal, the final score reading 37 – 36.
