Jackson Harvey is a freestyle mogul skier who was awarded a Tier 1 Scholarship within the 2024 Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship & Mentoring Program. He was paired with former Olympic pole-vaulter Steve Hooker OAM as his Mentor.
Born in 2002 in Winter Park, Colorado, Jackson grew up competing in regional events and on the North American mogul tour before being selected in the Australian World Cup team in 2022. Raised by parents who both worked in the ski industry, he learned to love the sport at an early age and began focusing on moguls at the age of 10, joining the Winter Park Competition Centre.
Jackson’s first notable result came in 2019, where he notched a 3rd place result in dual moguls at the Steamboat NorAm event – his first experience competing at this level. In 2021, he placed 3rd in single moguls at the U.S. Selection Event. These results effectively qualified him for the Australian National Team and after a season of training in Jindabyne, NSW, where he finished 2nd and 4th in the Australian National Championships, he earned starts on the 2023 Moguls World Cup Tour.
Jackson’s mum hails from Melbourne, so he is a dual citizen of Australia and the United States. He decided to relocate to Australia in 2022 to pursue his dreams of World Cup success with a strong belief that the Australian program is the best in the world. At his debut event in Ruka, Finland, he qualified for the finals and placed 14th in the single moguls competition amongst the best skiers in the world. The trajectory of his season remained positive – Jackson made finals at every stop of the tour, finishing 16th overall in single moguls. He also earned a start at the World Championships, where he finished 19th in dual moguls to wrap up the winter season.
In 2023, Jackson’s goal is to earn podium results on the World Cup Tour and he is currently training to add two high-level aerial manoeuvres to his competition run – back double-full and off-axis 1080. This added degree of difficulty will set him apart and make his runs competitive with the top six skiers on the tour.
Jackson was awarded an academic and sporting scholarship at Griffith University, where he is currently studying a dual degree in Environmental Science and Business. He hopes to pursue a master’s degree and use his scientific background to develop legislature and policy surrounding conservation and environmental protection. Along with his academic goals, Jackson aspires to give back to the sporting community as a coach or mentor in the future.
Jackson believes his unique pathway and relentless dedication will help him achieve his ambitions as an athlete and hopes to inspire the next generation of Aussie kids to chase their own.
“Being selected as a SAHOF Scholarship recipient and having the opportunity to work with a mentor is a massive and exciting development in my career. I am incredibly excited to develop a relationship with Steve Hooker, whose success in sport and business I greatly admire; I can’t wait to begin learning from his experience and then applying this insight to my own pursuits. I am humbled by my selection and am eager to interact with the SAHOF family in the future!” – Jackson Harvey on being selected as a 2024 Tier 1 Scholarship Holder.
